Blue Monster PTFE Thread Sealant

September 16, 2012 Peter General Info, New Products, Plumbing

A rugged, general purpose PTFE Thread Seal Tape in a monstrous 1429″ Roll!

Blue Monster PTFE Thread Seal Tape

Professional-grade density and five times more tape!

Blue Monster  is not too thick and not too thin. It was developed by Mill-Rose in response to the demand for a higher-quality PTFE sealing tape that is easier to apply. Blue Monster is rugged, not flimsy like most thread seal tapes on the market. Blue Monster has not been stretched during the manufacturing process, so it is thicker and creates a more effective seal with less tape, and no need for pipe dope.

  • A new, thicker, professional-grade density
  • Monstrous roll (1/2″x1429″)
  • Seals threads effectively in more applications
  • No need for pipe dope.
  • Easier to use – no waste!
  • All purpose – use on iron, brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, polyethylene, poly-propylene, PVC, CPVC, ABS, fiberglass and more.

Blue Monster  thread sealing tape is manufactured from PTFE resin, a polymer consisting of recurring tetrafluoroethylene monomers whose formula is (CF2-CF2)n. It is inert and compatible with a very wide range of materials. Use Blue Monster on threads made from galvanized steel, iron, brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, CPVC, ABS, fiberglass and more. It can be used on pipes carrying the following::

  • Acids, concentrated (see precautions)
  • Acids, dilute
  • Air, compressed
  • Alcohols
  • Aliphatic solvents
  • Ammonia, liquid
  • Aromatic solvents

Air-Cooled Equipment and Filter Cleaning

April 1, 2012 Peter General Info

How To Clean Air-Cooled Equipment and Filters

Foam Brite Nu-Brite Alka-Brite

Foam Brite Nu-Brite Alka-Brite

Air-Cooled Condensers

The primary goal in cleaning air-cooled condensers is to emulsify the greasy dirt and grime so that it can be flushed away by rinsing. This restores designed heat transfer and air flow. A good alkaline cleaner like CalClean is the choice, and the selection of Special HD CalClean would be recommended if the soil or  rime is particularly stubborn.

Condenser Coil Cleaning

Condenser Coil Cleaning

If foam during cleaning and brightened aluminum fins after cleaning are desired, select any one of the Nu-Calgon “Brite” products (Nu-Brite, Alka-Brite Plus, Foam-Brite or Cal-Brite). They will provide the cleaning of the CalClean products with the added features of foam and brightening. If hydrofluoric acid based products were used before, select Nu-Brite, Alka-Brite Plus or Foam-Brite. They are formulated to out-foam, out-brighten and out-clean the HF-based products. For small condenser coils, or where rinsing is not possible, use Aerosol Nu-Blast.

Evaporator Coils

Evaporator Coil

Evaporator Coil

Typically, the desired goal is the same as in cleaning air-cooled condensers, removal of greasy dirt and grime and designed capacities. If an acid based product is desired, where some brightening and foaming is wanted, use Cal-Brite followed by a thorough rinsing. If rinsing is not possible or not desirable, a product that combines “metal-safeness” without rinsing is suggested so long as suitable humidity-condensation is anticipated. Use Evap Pow’r-C in this application. Or, select the convenient aerosol, Evap-Foam No Rinse or
Evap-Fresh.

CalClean Tri Pow’r HD diluted 10:1 can also be used in no-rinse applications.

Electronic Air Filters

Air Cleaner

Air Cleaner

When electronic air filters become coated with tobacco tars, gummy dust particles and other stubborn deposits, they are difficult to clean. More importantly they lose their ability to adequately remove these types of objectionable items from the air. And typically, wherever electronic air filters are installed, the quality of the air is paramount.

Most alkaline cleaners don’t work because they simply cannot emulsify the stubborn deposits such as tobacco tars. Special HD CalClean and Electronic Cell Cleaner are specifically formulated to handle such a cleaning requirement. It contains an extra-strong blend of surface-active agents and alkaline cleaners, designed especially for cleaning electronic air filters. Special HD CalClean and Electronic Cell Cleaner easily out perform ordinary detergents.

Coil Protection

Cal-Shield

Cal-Shield

A product formulated with DuPont Teflon® surface protector. Utilizes the recognized ability of Teflon to shield and protect finned cooling and heating coils.

Traditional cleaning of the coil with a coil cleaner removes most to all deposits, restoring lost capacity as well as operating efficiencies. Unfortunately, the problem will return and cleaning will again be required.

Use of Cal-Shield will allow the coil to operate longer periods between cleaning. Once Cal-Shield is applied to the cleaned coil, it forms a protective shield of Teflon that helps the coil resist the depositing of dirt and grime, moisture will “bead up” and run off. This enables the coil to perform more efficiently for a longer period of time. If a coil is in an aggressive environment, such as salt air and food coolers, the Teflon will extend the coil’s service life in this corrosive environment. Consult Nu-Calgon Product Bulletin 3-36.

R22 Allocation

March 17, 2012 Peter General Info, Refrigerants

That Thing which we experienced in 1992 is here again, 20 years later…

…and with a vengeance!

Readin’, Ritin’ and ‘rithmetic are no longer the basic three Rs, at least not in the HVAC/R industry.

No, the three Rs are Recovery, Recycling and Reclamation.

And, it’s back!

NO CFC NO HCFC

Finding The Right Solution

What Has Changed?

On December 30, 2011 the EPA published a proposed rule for the management of HCFC-22 (R-22) Production and Consumption Allowances for 2012-2014. The proposed rule aims to decrease annual R-22 consumption allocations relative to the EPA’s December 2009 final rule.

The previous rule allocated 100M lbs. for 2011 and planned to step down the allocations to 90M lbs. in 2012. In its December 2011 proposed rule, EPA contemplates reducing the baseline for allowances to a level between 55M and 80M lbs., a significant reduction from the allocation rule that is in place today.

The EPA has indicated that a new final rule, which is expected to be issued later this year following a 30-day comment period and the EPA’s review and analysis of any comments received, will specify the exact reduction percentage relative to the 2009 Final Rule.

  1. We have a wide range of non-ozone-depleting alternatives that are not subject to a phase-out. We are able and ready to offer our assistance to help you determine which of these alternatives will best meet your needs.
  2. We are in the process of implementing a Cylinder Swap Program – Where we buy your R22 and other refrigerants – in addition to the Reclamation Program we presently offer.

Hopfully these options will ease the transition away from R22.

We’re committed to being The Leader in Reclamation.
